The Log Cabin Inn in Muncy

One of the restaurants on our "To Try" list, this is definitely one we'll go back to!  Apparently this used to be a biker bar, but now it's much more of a hometown diner feel.  The food was great, servings huge, and it was reasonably priced.  Family friendly.

Bonus points for having malt vinegar on the tables for the fries... but it was "fancy ketchup", not Heinz.  Which is a bit of a crime, but I can overlook it I guess.  :-)

Update - we've been back for the steak night, and the steaks are HUGE!  We really like eating here.  It was another great meal.

The Village Inn In Washingtonville

(Full menu is at the bottom of this post)

This place is NOT for everyone.  It's not overly clean.  There is no wifi - there's very little cell service at all.  But it's a favorite spot for the locals, especially for breakfast  And the old green bar is worth seeing!  It's located across from Burkholders - the cheapest place around to get lunch meat, and they now have milkshakes there too!  Both places are located by the blinking light in Washingtonville.

Dan took me to the Village Inn in Washingtonville today. I loved it - but it's not for everyone! The carpet is stained & torn. The furniture is mostly mismatched old office chairs. The old (gorgeous!!) bar & stools are cruddy - the entire place could use a good cleaning. The food reminded me of a cross between cafeteria food & a pot luck. (The "salad bar" was a pot luck of salads - the brocolli salad was really really good!! The soup on the salad bar was in a crockpot, on a folding table.) The vegetables came from a can. The food is plentiful - way more than we could eat. And it is CHEAP. The roast beef was fantastic. I look forward to going back and trying the sandwiches. I should hate the place really - but i truly loved it.

Crown Fried Chicken - For A Gyro

A Gyro At Crown Fried Chicken in Williamsport

A gyro from crown fried chicken in Williamsport. It was good - but not nearly as good as the ones from Main Street Grill in Muncy. CFC has falafel too - I want to go back and try that- and maybe even try the chicken. :-) I'd suggest ordering as take out - they really aren't set up for more than a couple of people to eat there.  And it was really cold inside.  Considering I never get cold, when I think a restaurant is cold, it's COLD.  And it wasn't extremely clean.

But I will definitely go back. Not for a gyro - their's are good, but not nearly as good as the ones at Main Street Grill.  When I want a gyro, I want to go to Main Street Grill.  Always.

But Crown Fried had falafel on the menu. I definitely want to try the falafel!  And I wouldn't mind trying the chicken.

The Antique Hotel Minder Clock at the Pine Barn Inn

This Seth Thompson "Hotel Minder" clock hangs in the Pine Barn Inn. I found a sale listing for a similar clock that explains how it worked - "This clock could remind the hotel clerk for up to 84 rooms. There are a couple of dozen brass tokens with the room number stamped in. The 12 hour day is marked every fifteen minutes in the lower section. The clerk puts the room token on the desired time for that room. When that time arrives he can give the tokes to a bell man for wake up calls.

Our Sunday school class had breakfast at the Pine Barn Inn.  We were a LARGE group.  The food was fantastic, the service was great, and the atmosphere is incredible - they have kept the old barn walls inside.  It was very busy - I'd recommend reservations here. The pecan crusted french toast was a favorite with our group.  I had an omelet that was also VERY good. https://www.facebook.com/PineBarnInn/

How To Add A Favorite Point To A Cache You Have Already Logged

 Quick Links:

This week-end we logged a lot of our finds "in the field", or quickly at Tim Horton's the next morning when we had cell signal.  We agreed that in the future, when caching in an area with no signal, we will log all of our finds as drafts and I'll edit and publish them when we get home.  But that's a live and learn moment, and we did not do that on this trip.

We often forgot to hit the favorite button on our favorite caches.  I thought I was going to have to go back and rewrite the logs for all of the caches we wanted to give favorites to, and then I clicked the arrow beside the favorites tab on a cache, and saw I could just choose "add favorite" from the drop down menu.

YAY!  Quick and easy!

A larger view, for those who need it.  Just click on the arrow beside the Favorites at the top.

Finding Our First Intercache

It's very similar to a Wherigo, but with a smoother interface, and no cartridge to download.

From the intercaching website:
"An intercache is a new way of creating a mystery geocache, where you can string together a combination of virtual and physical waypoints together. The entire geocache can be developed, edited, and played on your mobile phone's browser with no software required to download!"

We found our first intercache while in upper NY state for theAllegany State Park Geobash this May.  I always love wherigos, so I was anxious to check out this new intercache interface.

And I love it.

The first screen - we clicked on the arrow beside "location #1" to proceed.

Unlike wherigos, there are no cartridges to download.  You simply click on the link, and follow the directions.

The one we did was in a cemetery.  It would tell us to go to certain coordinates (that arrow moves like a compass) and when you were in range, you would answer a question.   In this case, we were looking for certain names on tombstones.  When you answered correctly, it would give you the next destination.

This was the second screen.  When were were in the correct range of the destination, we could answer the question.  For this particular intercache, the answer to the question was a name on a tombstone nearby.

The final destination, after answering all of the questions, was the actual cache container, as shown in the first photo on this post - all the way at the top.

Intercaches work on almost all modern smartphones. Most Android and iPhone devices should work if you have location services turned on.  You can test your phone to see if they will work on it, using the link here:

There is an intercaching group on facebook here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/573253052697372

Create your own intercache here -

If you live near us, there should be an intercache in our area soon - I'm working on it! :-)

There is a public bookmarked list of intercaches on geocaching.com, here:

But it might be faster to search for mystery caches near you and see if the word intercache is in the title...
