From Montoursville to High Knob overlook is a beautiful 40 minute drive, through some of our areas best fall colors.
Drive straight up 87, turn right on Dry Run Road, and you will drive right past Dry Run Falls, which you can see from your car, or you can scramble down a small hill to see from the bottom.
Drive a few minutes more out the same road, and you will end up at High Knob Overlook, where there is a picnic area, a variety of trails, and a beautiful view of the sunset over the valley.

When we arrived at High Knob, where there is a very large parking area, cars were parked with lawn chairs behind them, with a small crowd sitting and watching the sunset.
We had time to walk back one of the trails to find a geocache, before watching the sun set.
(This is a puzzle cache, you may want to solve it ahead of time)
My photos do this no justice. It is beautiful, and so very peaceful, up here.
Driving back down 87 took us right past Pier 87, where they have a fantastic roast beef sandwich
And then past Eders Ice Cream for dessert!
Also Nearby - but don't go to close to sunset, you'll want to do this hike in the daylight
