The Sunbury Fireman's Memorial

The fireman's statue was dedicated in October of 1997, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Sunbury Fire Company, by remembering those who have served the community.

The 9 foot tall statue of a firefighter holding a child, with another child at his side,  weighs 10,500 lbs.

"This monument is more than granite" said Mayor Persing at it's dedication.  "This is a constant reminder of all those who give their time to volunteer."

The Sunbury Fire Department consists of the Good Intent Fire Company, Sunbury Steam Engine Company No. 1 Rescue Hose Company, Americus Hose Company, Friendship Hose Company, East Sunbury Hose Company No 1, and the Good Will Hose Company.
The Washington Independent Steam Fire Company is the the only Sunbury company no longer in operation.  You can read more about the fire companies on their webpage here - http://www.sunburypa.org/fire-department.html
