The area around the mill was known as "Smithtown", with a post office and "bustling business center".
In 1898, Samuel Pierson Wallis purchased the mill site.
Originally a water mill, water was diverted from Little Muncy Creek into a millrace, which traveled under the wheel (undershot wheel), then returned to the creek through a tailrace. The headrace approached past the sheds towards the road and the mill.
The mill later changed from water powered, to diesel powered, and used equipment made by the local Sprout-Waldron Company.
The original Little Muncy Creek Pin Constructed Pratt Truss bridge leading to the Wallis Grist Mill was built in 1904. In 2009, it was deemed unsafe, and too costly to repair.
The bridge was completely reconstructed, with the only original element being the lattice railing, and the original sign.
