=======================================

Quite a few years ago, I had to bid on a box of vintage playboy magazines to get this newspaper. The auctioneer actually paused for a second when my hand went up - no joke. He knew me, and probably didn't realize that one of his runners had carelessly tossed "my" newspaper in the box. In case you didn't know (I certainly didn't) vintage playboys are very collectible, and not cheap! But in the end I got my newspaper, and a collector who was also at the sale got his magazines.
This is the 1907 Silver Anniversary edition of the Watsontown Record & Star. My copy is in horrible condition. But there haven't been a lot of options to find a copy of this anywhere, and I'm thrilled to have it. This issue is just a history of the town, and people, of Watsontown - a commemorative issue, not a normal newspaper. I took a photo of 1/4th of a page, featuring the Truckenmiller Mill, and had it blown up & framed, as you can see on the wall in this photo. I keep the entire newspaper framed too.
A few weeks ago I took the paper out of its frame, and every day when the weather is cooperating (no wind, good light but not too much light) I've been photographing it. You have no idea how often there is a light breeze until you have a 113 year old crumbling newspaper on your picnic table.
Anyway- its not perfect, but apparently we are not independently wealthy and a full size archival quality scanner with ocr capabilities is not a feasible expenditure, nor can I justify it as a farm expense. Trust me, no one is more disappointed by this than me. I'm also unwilling to try to scan this in sections in a smaller scanner. Its just too fragile. But I did my best to take clear photos, both of entire pages, and of smaller sections, and I'll be uploading them as I have time to clean up the photos & organize them. It will take time. I'm always working on 12 projects at once - so at least 12x as long as you would expect. Oh - and I'm easily sidetracked. Better make that 20x as long as you'd expect.
