Congressman Franklin Bound 1829-1910

On November 14 1884, "the street between Broadway and Center Avenue opened and named in honor of Congressman Bound. The Miltonian Office was formerly located on this thoroughfare

BOUND, FRANKLIN, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Milton, Northumberland County, Pa., April 9, 1829; attended the common schools and old Milton Academy; studied law at Easton, Pa.; was admitted to the bar in 1853 and commenced practice in Milton; member of the State senate 1860-1863; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1868; served as a private in one of the emergency regiments called for the defense of the State; was mustered into the United States service and discharged with his regiment; elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses (March 4, 1885-March 3, 1889); was not a candidate for renomination in 1888; resumed the practice of law; died in Milton, Pa., on August 8, 1910; interment in Milton Cemetery. https://bioguideretro.congress.gov/Home/MemberDetails?memIndex=B000667

Franklin was the son of Joseph & Mary Ann (Housel) Bound. Joseph Bound, Born about 1790, Joseph was the Justice of the Peace in Milton for many years.  "On this day in local history, December 28 1828, The Milton Library Association organized. Joseph Bound was the president."

After purchasing the Miltonian newspaper in 1867,  Franklin Bound served as that publication's editor for two years.

Franklin resided at 139 South Front Street in Milton, Pennsylvania.  He married Emma Brown around 1877, when he was nearly 48 years old.    They had (at least) three daughters:  Marian E. Born in 1880, Emma Born about 1886 married George Schroyer , And Nellie born about 1888.  

A longtime member of the Free and Accepted Masons who had served as master of the Milton Lodge in 1855, Bound remained active with the F. & A.M. for nearly 60 years.
