The Pony Contest In Milton, 1912

 

The Miltonian frequently gave out exorbitant prizes for whomever could sell the most subscriptions to their paper. 

In 1922, it was "Roller Coasters" [Wagons]

In 1925, the prize was a brand new Buick sedan. 

In 1912, it the prize was ponies.  Each week the paper listed the names of the participants and who was in the lead. Contests were not only from Milton, but also New Columbia, McEwensville, Pottsgrove, West Milton, Lewisburg, Dewart, Washingtonville, Allenwood and Watsontown.

Harriet Ruch Of Milton and Paul Grittner of Milton had won for the week of December 23rd.  William Spotts was in 3rd.

On March 2 1912, the contest winners were announced. Leroy Thomas of Milton and Fred Auten of Pottsgrove both were awarded  a pony.
