The Dairymen's League, Milton Pa

The Dairymen's League, Milton Pa
Today this building houses a Thrift Store, part of the "Hands Up" Foundation.
It's located directly across from the stone arch entrance to Harmony Cemetery.

The new plant of the dairymen's league in Milton began operations on April 1 1922.
100,000 lbs of milk were brought to the plant on the first day.  It was the largest Dairyman's League building in the state of Pennsylvania.

Mr J.F.  Cammon, local representative of the dairyman's league, spoke to the Borough Council in April of 1922. His remarks consisted of plans for the Milton facility to offer pasteurized milk, and he mentioned the benefits to local businesses brought by the Co-Op.
He said that dozens of farmers drove to Milton every day to deliver milk to the plant, often making purchases while in town. The monthly meeting of the League was expected to bring 500 farmers to town.
In March of 1922, Dairymen's League Ice Cream was for sale in Milton Pa By:
W.M. Fuller, Norris Kint, E H Mensch, Enterline Bros, Andrew Sapoychak, and G.P. Waltman.

December 1922 - Troy plant to be the second largest in the state, after Milton.

Not all farmers were happy with the Milk Pooling arrangement.

The building was extensively renovated in the spring of 1948.

The building later became the Dairy-Lea Co-op, and then the A&P milk plant.  It still stands today, across from the Cemetery [note the cemetery in the background of the photo], and is currently owned by Huff's.

    1. Yes, it's still standing, although unfortunately, its no longer nearly as beautiful. Today it houses the thrift store that is part of the "Hands Up" foundation. Located directly across from the stone arch entrance to Harmony Cemetery.
