The Casino, located at the corner of Second Street and Penna, Sunbury Pa
A closer, although very blurry, view of the building, showing the Casino sign on the roof.
Yes, there was a "Casino" in Sunbury, right across from the second street Passenger Railroad Station, which was, by the way, the first railroad station to be wired with electricity.
A "casino" in 1907 however, was not the gambling establishment we think of when we hear the word today. It was more of an Opera House - a large public space used for a variety of activities, speakers, and events.
In 1908 an evangelist spoke there, to a full house:
Owned by the Neitz brothers in 1910, the Casino included a skating rink and bowling alley.
It was also robbed in 1910...

The Pennsy Shopmen held a lot of meetings, particularly regarding the union, in the Casino in 1918.
A Quick Lunch was opened by Stahl & Traubey, in the Casino Building in February of 1919.
The Casino was purchased by Peerless Laundry Company of Lewisburg in September of 1919. At the time of sale, the Casino had a restaurant [the Quick Lunch, opened earlier that year], but the "remainder of the big frame building remains unused".
The building was destroyed in a fire, December 16th 1923:
In later years, there was a Casino on 3rd street - that was a night club, a completely separate business.
