Montoursville Growers Market

CURRENTLY NOT PLANNING TO RETURN FOR 2023

Located on Rt 87 in Montoursville Pa.
(Same exit as Wal-mart, turn in the opposite direction of wal-mart)

The Montoursville Farmers Market was held on Tuesdays in the parking lot of the Community Baptist Church in Montoursville.  On rt 87, just down the road from Herman & Luthers.  (This is the same church that holds BSF on Wednesday Mornings)

It is May, so in Pa, there are not a lot of things that have been grown locally and are ready for harvest, this time of year.  Especially in the cloudy rainy weather we have had.  There was just one produce stand at this festival, with a few of their items obviously being grown in a greenhouse, to be ready this time of year.  Still, there was fresh asparagus, lettuce, green onions, and some really nice tomatoes.

There was another stand with locally grown meats, and a couple with baked goods and home made rootbeer.  There as also a beautiful woodworking stand, and a couple of craft vendors, as well as a fudge stand.

At least in May, where this market excels is in lunch options!  There was chicken bbq being cooked on site, Misty Mountain Farm had hamburgers, cheeseburgers & cheese steaks, and more.

All around this market, the prices were really reasonable!  I look forward to seeing this market later this summer, when more is in season.

==================
Sadly, Herman and Luthers no longer has their pizza here.  They do have a deli in the barn right down the road, you drive past it to get to this market - and their food is always fabulous.

Just for the memories - here's the part of the post from when they had pizza:

Herman & Luthers have a stand of woodfired "Work Shop" Pizza.  This is a bit of a drive for me, but it's seriously worth it for just that pizza!

This Weeks Market Pizza

The Market Pizza is different each week, based on market ingredients.  I can't begin to tell you how much I love this idea. This week it was White Pizza with oak smoked brisket, goat cheese, alfredo, fossil springs spring onion & fresh herbs.  I'm not a big fan of goat cheese (even though I raise goats - go figure!) and yet I loved this pizza so much.  The brisket was incredible, and the goat cheese did not overwhelm the pizza.

We also got the We Put The Fun In Fungus, which was also fantastic - but now I'm wishing we had tried one with a red sauce..  oh well, guess I'll just "have" to go back.  :-)

Places To Eat - Iron Fork, Danville pa

1301 Bloom Road
Danville, PA 17821.
Open 7 days a week.

Today, on a whim, we had Sunday lunch at the Iron Fork restaurant in Danville.

It's part of the Frosty Valley Country Club, but you do not need to be members to eat there.  The restaurant is open to the public.

When you walk in the door, look to the right.  I really don't have to tell you this, you can't miss it.  There's a painting there that is absolutely amazing.  My photos do not even come close to doing it justice.  You need to see this in person!  It's multi media, the stones and the rail on the left are added media.  The rest is painted.  I do enjoy art, but it's rare that I find anything I love as much as I love this piece.  It's especially perfect, since Danville is the birth place of the t-rail.

We ordered the Fish Tacos & The Danville House Pot Roast.
Both were absolutely fantastic.
Our bill was $24 before tip.

The views here are beautiful.  It was raining today, but there is also outdoor seating.
The sitting area outside of the hostess area

Definitely one of our new favorite places to eat!

The Tivoli Tavern

9522 Route 220 Hwy, Hughesville, PA 17737

I heard a commercial on the radio a few weeks back, for this place.  It's one of those rare commercials that is well done - it talks about the menu and uses the name enough times that I could easily look it up when I was no longer driving.
We were nearby one night, and of course I love to try unique new places...  so here we are.  It did end up being a bit more of a drive than we expected..  it's a Hughesville address, but this is not downtown Hughesville - it's actually on the outskirts, in an area named Tivoli.

The parking lot was FULL.  There were large groups of people our age (middle aged) standing in the parking lot talking.  This is often a good sign.
The inside is small - and was packed full, but I didn't feel crowded and we got a seat quickly.  There is a bar, separated by the half wall with the mountain lion shown above.  There's  a stuff bear on one end of the dining room, and what I believe is a coyote skin on one wall...  mixed with some sports memorabilia, and a few very old black and white photos of the area.  My kind of eclectic.

We got here late, after a long day and a hike to Tickle Rock - so when the food came, I didn't think to snap a photo right away.  It looked much nicer when the waitress set it on the table.  This was the Juicy Lucy Special - I don't know if this is every Thursday night or not, but we had seen it on their facebook page.
Thursday special:Juicy Lucy Burger!
It’s a 1/2 Pound Cheddar Cheese Stuffed Burger with a Side of Fries for $10.00!

I had the buffalo chicken cheese steak and it was VERY good!

See the menu online here:

They have a prime rib special on the first Saturday of every month.
Reservations are strongly suggested for Prime Rib night.

Anyone know which waterfall this is?  There are women holding parasols standing at the top in this photo.
====================================
Below is from our first visit.  On our second visit the food was MUCH better and our waitress was fantastic!  This is one of those times where I am very glad we didn't let one less than stellar (although not horrible) visit keep us from visiting again!

The food however, was just ok.  And our waitress never refilled our drinks, which is pretty much our only criteria for a decent waitress.  She was nice, she just didn't come back to refill my coffee or Dan's soda.

This does not adequately show how huge the fish sandwich is.

The brewed fries were REALLY good!  And my turkey sandwich had a great taste.  The bread was just a little soggy.

It's an interesting place I'd be willing to visit again.  Especially to try their Prime Rib night!

Sweet Sauce Pizza - Whadda Pizza

125 Northumberland St, Danville Pa

This is a tiny place in Danville -  between the old cvs building and Burger King.
There's really no seating inside - it's pretty much just take out.

Our daughter in law is from this area, so one night after geocaching in the area, we messaged her and asked where to find the best pizza.  She suggested we try something different - specifically a sweet sauce with bacon.  (I added mushrooms - I love mushrooms)

I did not expect to like a sweet sauce on my pizza.  I was very wrong.  And the bacon on it is a REALLY good call - it's the perfect compliment to the sweet sauce!

Mel's Deli & Cafe

Bucking Beef, Brocolli Salad, & Iced Coffee
365 Broad Street, Montoursville Pa

This is one of my daughter and my absolute favorite places for lunch!  We meet here about once a month.  We often order the special, but we've worked our way through most of the menu and love it all.  The Bucking Beef is my personal favorite, Meg usually prefers a chicken wrap.  We both always order the broccoli salad as our side - it's fantastic!

There's a nice selection of basked goods, and really good coffee too!

Places To Eat - The An-Teek in Watsontown PA

 104 E 8th St, Watsontown, Pennsylvania 17777

No smoking inside, it's a bar, but it's also a very family friendly place for dinner.
I know those two things do not normally go together, but here it works somehow.

Service was fantastic, food was good.

Eating At Penns Tavern

113 River Road, Route 147, Sunbury, PA 17801

Although I think of Penns Tavern as a "nicer" place to eat, we actually stopped in randomly last month, after an afternoon of geocaching.  The weather was slow to warm up this year, and this was one of the first warmer nights of April - so we called ahead and made sure the deck was open, and we ate overlooking the river.  As the evening cooled off, they lit heaters on the deck.

It was a wonderful evening, and by far one of the best meals we have eaten out in a long time.  The food was absolutely wonderful.

The Bruschetta appetizer

The Cowboy Steak and amazing mashed potatoes

Berry salad with smoked chicken breast and a basalmic dressing
All of the salad dressings are made here - they are SO good!

The view from our table

Deck Heaters

 Some pics of the inside:

The bar is right inside the door, behind the hostess station

Part of the main dining room.  There are more dining areas in the back.
