Have Coffee In A Beautifully Restored Victorian Mansion in Williamsport

Have coffee, tea, and pastries in a restored Victorian mansion in Williamsport.

Backhouse Coffee & Tea
901 West 4th St, Williamsport Pa
Located directly across from the Taber House Museum

Our daughter is a senior at Lycoming College,  and also works at Sam's club.  Over the past few years, her job has greatly influenced where we eat in this area, and very specifically, where we do not eat.  Some of our local restaurants, unfortunately, are not very nice to the employees where they purchase their supplies.  And while we all understand a bad day or two, over the years, our daughter has a good sense of who had a bad day, and who has been  unkind and unreasonable every time they shop. Thankfully, she also sees restaurant owners and managers who are just genuinely nice.

Early this year, every time I spoke with her she told me I had to go visit Backhouse Coffee.  "Mom, the owners are SO nice.  Every time.  Go support them!"  So I dutifully added it to my list of places to visit.

And again, she was right.  The owners here are not only super nice, they have, in my opinion, simply the best coffee shop around.  I can't think of another place like it in our area.

What an absolute gem of a place! The mansion is gorgeous, restored with beautiful old wallpapers and furniture that is appropriate for the space.  There are several rooms, and a gorgeous porch, you can choose to sit on to have your coffee.  There's a dining room with a large table if you have a group, or there are couches and chairs tucked around fireplaces.

It is all beautiful.  And that's before you even take a sip of the coffee, which is good.
Oh, so good.  Be sure to try their pastries too!
