Fire Hydrant Soldiers - A Bicentennial Trend

In 1975 and 1976, in preparation for the Nations' Bicentennial, towns and cities around the nation painted their fire hydrants in patriotic colors, and as soldiers and minutemen.

Some towns held painting competitions, or held "Paint A Plug" days.

In Milton the winners were Beth Hoover and Tina Baker.

Nancy Shipe and Linda Mowery, painting in Sunbury

In Selinsgrove, the winners were dog themed.  Painted by Kenda Miller and Carol Kerlin, and Tim and Mike Mengel
