Mountain View Lavender Farm, 324 Enterline Rd Watsontown Pennsylvania
(Although the address is Watsontown, this is right off Main street in McEwensville)
As you enter the town of McEwensville from Milton, look for Enterline Road on the right. There's a U-Pick Sign right by the steet sign. From here, it's a short drive out Enterline Road.
Follow the signs around the back of the property, and you will drive down a somewhat steep hill to the lavender fields below. (This hill must be amazing for sled riding in the winter!!)
Signs along the drive instruct you to keep left - as in, drive on the left side of the path. But be aware that since we typically drive on the right side of the road, traffic coming at you may not be following the directions on the signs. :-)
The farm has both English (on the left) and French (on the right) , lavender.
One "bundle" is about an inch in diameter, for $10, and you can mix the two varieties.
Purely for reference - the same size bundle of lavender at the Williamsport Growers market last week cost me $2. Today we paid an extra $8 for the experience of cutting our own.
Even more amusing, I have plants of both these varieties here at home, so I could have cut my own bundle for free. I really just wanted to see this place, since its been featured in the news so frequently, and is located just a few minutes away from our own farm.
French Lavender
The plants had lots of butterflies fluttering around, it was very pretty to see.
When we arrived, were were shown the two types of plants, and also shown a small piece of PVC pipe to demonstrate what constituted a "bunch", so we knew how much to cut.
It took us about five minutes to cut our bunch of lavender, and then we headed into the small building to see the lavender items for sale.
You can purchase lavender plants for $5 each, to plant at home.
Items for sale included dried lavender, lavender cupcakes, lavender coffee, lavender soap, candles and cookies..
There were gorgeous coffee mugs made by a potter in State College, hand painted with lavender plants. ($36)
From the time we arrived, got our instructions, cut our lavender, took some photos [no professional photography allowed. Also, no dogs allowed.] browsed the shop, and paid - our trip lasted about 15 minutes in total.
Our bunch of lavender, and lavender coffee - made by Bason Coffee.
