247 Chestnut - The Sands Mansion
Built in 1857 for James Sands, a banker
Believed to be the second oldest brick residence in Mifflinburg

264 Chestnut St - today the Mifflinburg Hotel/Scarlet D. Tavern
The Stitzer Inn was built here in 1829.  It was replaced in 1858 by the Deckerd House, later the Union Hotel, then The Hotel Hopp.  

The Hopp Hotel

 This Deckerd building was damaged by fire in 1916.  When it was restored, a balcony was added to the front.  Around this same time, the hotel was purchased by Alfred Hopp, owner of the Hopp Carriage Works.

Built by Enoch Miller for his daughter Virginia "Bessie"
Bessie married James Ritter, a successful buggy salesman and silent partner in the Hopp Carriage Company.

From 1868 - 1883 this building served as Dr Steadman's medical office, and the post office.

Enoch Miller built this building in 1883, for Henry Gast to enlarge his general store.  
The first building in the area to use pneumatic tubes
A similar façade of brick was given to the two buildings to the west, which changed the appearance of the entire block

O.R Laney's 5 & 10

Otha Raymond Laney opened O.R. Laney's in Mifflinburg opened on March 21 1936, in the former Gast department store. Mr Laney owned the store until 1976, when he sold it to the Haag's.  The store closed in 1990.

407 Chestnut Street - The Farmers Bank
Built by Enoch Miller in 1889
The Farmers Bank was located in this building until 1908, when it moved across the street.  

408 Chestnut - Koons Hardware & Electric Company
In 1981 Arthur Koons daughter Mary moved her dress shop to that location.

408 Chestnut - Dr Kemble's residence
Later purchased by George Washington Schoch, he published the Mifflinburg Telegraph from the second floor, and added a section on the east side for the Mifflinburg Post Office, after being named postmaster.

500 Chestnut Street  - The Buffalo Valley Inn
Built by William Young as a hotel and hardware store, this was the Commercial Inn for a number of years, then the Bingaman Hotel.  After a murder during a bar room brawl, the bar was removed and it became a temperance hotel, known as the Buffalo Valley Inn.  See more here:

The restaraunt offered billiards and cigars, as well as food.
