Wreck At Slate Run, December 15 1956

NYC Train Derailed,
Broken Track Blamed

A fast-moving New York Central freight train hit a broken rail Saturday at 3:45 p. m. at Slate Run, throwing 27 of its 82 cars into Pine Creek. There were no injuries, but damages totaled thousands of dollars in the wreck, which ripped up a large section or the single track. Three diesel units were pulling the 82-car train from Corning, N. V., to the Newberry Junction. The tram broke at the third diesel.
