Travelers Inn, Lewisburg Pa

The Travelers Inn, Lewisburg Pa

Travelers Inn was located in the area where Country Cupboard was later built, On the corner of Hafer Road and Rt. 15.

To the North, there was a rail spur line leading to the prison.  In front of the rail line was a gas station, owned by Charlie Gorman - The Four Square Station.  The Travelers Inn, and the Coffee Pot were located to the south of the gas station.

The first mention I found of the Travelers Inn was an advertisement in July of 1938, stating that they would be open for business' on Wednesday July 6th. "A share of your patronage is solicited."  R.D. Snyder & Son proprietors, Former Managers Of the West Milton Restaurant.

In 1941, they expanded the dining room to add a dance floor.

It was under ne management in 1944, and for sale (I believe? It's possible other adjoining property was for sale and inquiries were merely directed to the Travelers Inn) in 1952.

A Menu from 1951:

A public Sale was held Saturday May 21 1966, at the Travelers Inn.  Restaurant Equipment, dishes, utensils, a 2 car frame garage, etc.  "Must evacuate due to road construction." Mae D. Platt Owner, Neil S. Moyer Auctioneer.

In October of 1967 a jury trial was held to decide if $60,000 should be awarded to a New Columbia RD woman for the condemnation of her property for the construction of the new Route 15 from West Milton to Lewisburg.

"The suit involved the condemnation of the Travelers Inn Restaurant, two miles north of Lewisburg, for the construction of the new stretch of highway."

The condemnation took place on April 4th 1966. Mrs. Mae D. Platt, owner, was seeking $60,000 in damaged from the commonwealth.
