William H. Ruhl, 58, once of Mifflinburg MIFFLINBURG The funeral for William H. Ruhl, 58. of 465 West 23rd St., New York City, N.Y., will be conducted at 1 : 30 p.m. Tuesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg by the Rev. Robert C. Linke. Burial will be in Hill Top Cemetery, Mifflinburg, where full military graveside rites will be accorded by Mifflinburg American Legion.
There will be a private visitation this evening at the Mifflinburg Chapel of the James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals. - There win be no viewing at the time of the service. Mr. Ruhl, a landscape and portrait artist, died Friday evening in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he had been a patient 10 days.
He had been in failing health six weeks. 'Born Sept. 16, 1929, in Mifflinburg. he was a son of Kathryn Lucille (Hommel ) Ruhl of Mifflinburg and the late Earl Andrew -Rosey" Ruhl.
Mr. Ruhl moved from Mifflinburg to New York City 35 years ago. Ruhl worked 11 years in the law department of the U.S. ; Veterans Administration in New York. He, retired last March but continued painting.
Many of Ruhl's paintings have been displayed in the past 15 years in New York City museums, including the Guggenheim Museum, according to his brother, Earl A. Ruhl Jr. "He was elated when his paintings got into the museums," his brother said. The city of New York commissioned Ruhl in 1976 to paint a picture of the Tall Ships Flotilla in New York Harbor during the bicentennial festivities.
He was a 1947 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and -majored is art for two years at Kutztown University. A member of Disabled American Veterans, Ruhl served four years in the U.S. Army and seven years in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Ruhl was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, and attended Gustavus Lutheran Church, New York City.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother. Earl A. Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and one sister, Mrs. Sidney M. Grant of North Highlands, Calif..
