Verdi Band

"A Verdi Band is a traditional Italian-American community concert and marching band named after the famous Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi."

Incorporated in 1910
Joe Monastro, or "Joe Flute", is sitting on the drum


March 1914 - Headquarters on South Second Street.  " An organization composed of Italians of this city."


1915 - "The Verdi band will play under the municipal Christmas Tree during the last hour of 1915" 

Jan 1916, Tickets were being sold for the 4th annual ball "to be given by the Verdi Band" 





1923

1925 - East Canal Street, Headquarters

In 1922 they performed a humorous piece that involved a successful mimic of chickens and rooster that was reportedly, "always a hit".

The marching band was led by Giuseppi Biffarella - who left the Respaz band to form the Verdi Band.

Giuseppi Biffarella owned taught music and owned a she repair shop at 235 Academy Street.
