Winged Victory of Samothrace

A Replica Of the Winged Victory of Samothrace in Ways Garden

The original Winged Victory has been exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris, at the top of the main staircase, since 1884.

Sometimes called the Winged Nike, or Winged Nike of Samothrace, the original  was found on the island of Samothrace, north of the Aegean Sea.

A "masterpiece of Greek sculpture from the Hellenistic era", it's believed to date to the 2nd century [190 BC].  The statue represents the goddess Nike [Victory] with her arms missing and the base in the shape of a ships bow.

I'm still searching for when and why the replica was added to Ways Garden. For now, my post on Ways Garden is already WAY too long, so I'm adding this on it's own page - it's a great sight to see.
