Visiting All Of PA's State Parks

Map of All Of The State Parks In PA

When the kids were young, before we moved to the farm, we started camping because it was really the only vacation we could afford.  After a few years we decided to make it our goal to visit every state park in Pa before the kids were grown.

And then we bought the farm.  It's much harder to pick up and go camping when you have a farm!  And then there were the kids sports and activities as they got older.... we didn't reach our goal.  So we'll change the goal. :-) I still want to see all of the state parks in Pa, even if we can't take the kids (now all adults) along with us.

You can go to this link - https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=18u5DfIbV4JFrU7_9JafJL2LSukk&hl=en_US&ll=40.96806350514185%2C-77.7070445&z=8 and it will take you to the map shown above.  Click on the three dots to the right of the title (in the red part) and choose Copy This Map.  Now you can rename it and edit it for your own use.

I then went through the list and changed the icons on every park we have not visited, to green circles.  I have scrapbooks of just our state park trips, my goal is to digitize them so I can make shutterfly copies for each of the kids, and I'll add posts about each park as I do so.

North Branch Canal Trail, Danville Pa

We found this trail, as we find most trails, through a geocache.  A really, really awesome geocache - if you are a geocacher, you should definitely do this one!

GPS Coords for the parking area at the start of the trail - N 40° 56.553 W 076° 34.967
It's located on River Rd, very close to the boat launch.  If you navigate to 1804 River Drive, Danville, PA 17821 (The Happy Camper) just go another 1/10th of a mile and it will be on your right.

When we first arrived, an eagle took off from the tree right at the start of this path.

This is a very short, level, path.  There are picnic tables and benches, and a porta potty at the start.
There are mile markers - right now the trail is only .4 miles long, but there are plans for it to eventually be a 6 mile long trail.

There's a railroad on one side of the trail, and the river on the other.  It's a really nice path.

Edith's Kitchen, Danville PA - CLOSED

Edith's is now closed - they do catering, but there is no longer a restaurant.  :-(

I think I have loved every restaurant that has been in this building.  First the Old Hardware, then Mulberries, now Edith's Kitchen.  336 Mill St, Danville Pa.

Their facebook page is really out of date.  That often makes me nervous when we are looking at restaurants to try, but in this case, it's just poor social marketing.

These were just the specials. The full menu is actually quite large.  We ordered the greek wrap, and the hot roast beef sandwich:

Dan had a soda, it's big bens on tap, and it comes in a mason jar with a straw.  They even have blue birch! I ordered coffee, and received a full carafe.  :-)
Our bill came to $24. Very reasonable.

The decor feels a bit like pinterest come to life.  There's a counter here that is made out of old shutters, and a ladder hanging from the ceiling, fake windows, and lights strung between burlap...

We need to take our teenage son to check out the locomotive sometime soon -

Pier 87

We were in Williamsport geocaching, when our son came home from MEPS, after his ASVAB test.  He arrived at the recruiters office in Williamsport, and we wanted to meet up with him, before we all drove home, to celebrate his ASVAB scores.  My best friend had told us about Pier 87, and this seemed like a good night to check it out.

The weather was just nice enough to be outside - they had the porch open.  We chose to sit out there, as did many others.  There's a sand beach area, with a firepit that had a fire going, and a beautiful view of the creek.

The food was GOOD.  Really, really good.  Service was great.  I had the firepit salad, and it was so good that I'll have trouble trying other items  from the menu.  A bed of greens topped with sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, then topped with their brewed fries and some cheese.  It was so good that our meat loving teenage son thought maybe he should have ordered the salad. The guys had  sandwiches - the pork, and the roast beef. They loved those too. You can see the full menu here: http://www.thepier87.com/menu.html

The prices are very reasonable.  I think my salad was around $11, and the sandwiches around $9, with another $1 or $2 for the french fries on the side.  Our entire bill, for the 3 of us, before tip was $38 - and we took food home with us.
And the carved tree along the creek is just a really cool feature.
Definitely to be  added to one of our favorite places to eat!
