Sights To See - Museums

 Sights To See - Museums

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Centuries later, the entire contents of his personal chapel, which was once part of his castle in Spain, are inherited by a woman in Central Pennsylvania.  Yes, really.  No matter what you think of Columbus himself [I've read his diaries, it's hard to be a fan], this collection is really neat to see.

The name is misleading - forget the word bikes.  Sure, there is a room of them..  but there's a room of EVERYTHING here.  Including little rooms rebuilt to show things like an old post office, etc.  SO much local memorabilia here too.

Mifflinburg Pa

An incredible find, this buggy factory in Mifflinburg was closed up as is - and today is a wonderful look at how buggies were made

Williamsport, Pa

This  museum has art, history, and displays you would not normally see in such a small rural area.  An absolute gem.

TO ADD: Softball museum in Sunbury,

Fonthill Castle

Fonthill Castle is a bit of a road trip, but it's definitely worth the drive.
Make a day of it and visit the Moravian Tile Works while there.
[Some of the tiles from that tile works can be seen locally around the fireplace at the Sunbury Skating Rink].  There's also a used bookstore in downtown Doylestown, and a gelato shop, both of which were pretty much worth the drive just on their own.  :-)

It's not only a castle, in Pennsylvania, but it's a REALLY unique castle.

Selinsgrove Pa

An incredible display, showing the town of Milton as it once was.  Originally built in the basement of Pastors home in Lewisburg, it's now maintained by a team of dedicated Volunteers in the Milton Moose Building.

Fort Rice is an actual Revolutionary War Era Fort, still standing near Turbotivlle Pa.  Private Property, do not trespass - but it's visible from the road.

The Druckenmiller
Trading Pos
built in 1789 was moved and rebuilt on the grounds of the Dale Engle Walker House in Lewisburg

The "rebuilt" Washingtonville Cabin, which can be seen at the Montour Delong Fairgrounds looks nothing at all like the building that was discovered & saved in Washingtonville.  But it's still neat to see.

There is a history museum in Norry [Town of Northumberland, in the county of Northumberland] located at 175 Orange Street, in the borough building.  It's quite nice - but I've only ever been in during events, I'm not certain of their hours.
